Plasma Levels after Topical Application of 0.5% Piroxicam Ointment


Abstract
Author evaluated the plasma concentration level and safety of the drug after percutaneous application of o. 5% piroxicam gel 3 gr. to 7 healthy adult male volunteers.
The following conclusions may be deduced from the results:
1. The peak plasma level was occurred at 24 hours after percutaneous application and time engradually decreased.
2. The peak plasma level was 157 ng./ml and approximately 1/15 that of oral administration.
3. Half life of the drug was 48 hours long and lasted 11 hours longer than the oral administration.
4. The safety was evaluated as very good and no adverse effect was noted.
